AI can speed up coding, but what happens when the bottleneck moves? Explore smarter software delivery with Alan Vargas of GitLab.

AI can make teams dramatically faster at producing code. But if review, testing, security, approvals, or deployment can’t keep up, faster development doesn’t necessarily mean faster delivery.

Blue People presents another Tech + Tequila Talk, featuring Alan Vargas, Account Executive at GitLab, for a conversation on what happens when AI accelerates one part of the software delivery system while the real constraint simply moves somewhere else.

Using Goldratt’s Theory of Constraints as the lens, Alan will explore why optimizing individual steps isn’t enough. and how teams can focus instead on improving the flow from idea to production.

What we’ll explore:

• Find the Real Constraint: Identify the bottleneck limiting the system, not just the problem that gets the most attention.
• Stop Optimizing in Isolation: Understand why producing more code can create bigger queues downstream.
• Improve the Flow: Look beyond coding speed to review, testing, security, approvals, and deployment.
• Automate With Purpose: Use automation to support the constraint instead of adding more pressure to it.
• Measure What Matters: Focus on trusted changes shipped rather than lines of code generated.

The goal isn’t more software for the sake of more software. It’s a system that delivers more value with less waiting, rework, and risk.
