SUMMARY:NASA Tech Talks: Texas-France Space Hub Business Accelerator Initiative (Spring 2026 Cohort)
DESCRIPTION:We want HOU! Join us to discover NASA’s toughest tech challenges—and apply your skills and expertise to solve them. \nThis month NASA Tech Talks is once again partnering with the Rice Space Institute (RSI) in their efforts to fuel startup growth\, drive research\, and forge international partnerships.  Last year\, RSI joined with Business France\, the French Space Agency CNES and the French Consulate in Houston to launch the Texas-France Space Hub\, aiming to unite academic institutions and private enterprises to expand commercial space presence in both countries. \nThe second cohort of French space companies will be in Houston May 4 to June 12\, and we are looking forward to hearing from them at our NASA Tech Talk on May 28. \n3IPK: Advancing Trusted Data for Aerospace and Defense \nWatt&Well: Pioneering High-Performance Power Electronics for Critical Applications \nInfinity Space Providers (ISP): Enabling Scalable Hybrid Propulsion for the Next Generation of Space Mobility \nJoin us to learn more about the Texas-France Space Hub\, and to hear from each of these companies. \nPlease join us after the talk for drinks and networking at Second Draught! \n  \nAbout the Speakers \nMontgomery B. Goforth  has more than 40 years of experience as both Engineer and Manager in a variety of highly technical space and defense-related efforts.  After working for a small defense contractor specializing in anti-submarine warfare\, he joined NASA’s Johnson Space Center in 1990.  He has held leadership positions in multiple JSC Directorates and Program Offices. In his previous role as Assistant Director of the JSC Engineering Directorate\, he established a framework to better focus Engineering’s efforts towards Human Spaceflight technology and systems development consistent with JSC and Agency goals for exploration. Mr. Goforth is now serving as Acting Director of the Business Development & Technology Integration Office at JSC\, and as the JSC Chief Technologist.  In these capacities he will be helping to expand the Houston Aerospace Community through the identification of opportunities to develop space/terrestrial technologies of interest to JSC and Human Space Exploration.  Mr. Goforth was born in East Texas\, raised in Southern California and Arizona\, and graduated from Rice University (BSME 1982\, MSME 1987). \nAbout the Rice Space Institute \nThe Rice Space Institute (RSI) at Rice University is an interdisciplinary coordinating hub that fosters collaboration in space science\, technology\, and policy. Formed in 2000\, it builds on Rice’s deep history in space exploration\, which includes opening the first space science department in the U.S. in 1963 and hosting JFK’s famous 1962 “Moon Speech”. \nPrimary Missions \nInterdisciplinary Research: RSI supports research into the origins of planetary habitability and sustaining human life beyond Earth. \nEducation & Leadership: The institute trains future leaders in space science and advocacy through programs like the Professional Science Master’s (PSM) in Space Studies. \nPublic Outreach: RSI maintains an international reputation for public engagement\, including public lecture series and managing the Rice Campus Observatory. \nAbout NASA Tech Talks \nIn these presentations\, occurring the fourth Thursdays of the month\, Mr. Montgomery Goforth and other aerospace subject matter experts will discuss the technology development challenges faced by NASA’s Johnson Space Center and the surrounding Aerospace community in our ongoing efforts as the hub of human spaceflight. Presentations will focus on the ways in which these challenges\, and the associated opportunities\, can be leveraged by Houston’s innovation community. We will continue to identify potential space/terrestrial technologies of interest to Human Spaceflight.  Past NASA Tech Talks have included topics such as: \n\nFrom Space to Startup: Leveraging NASA Technology and Innovation to Propel Your Growing Enterprise\nDisruptive Filter Technology for Spacecraft Water Treatment:  The New Promise of Graphene\nLunar dust capture using novel multiplexed inertial filter\nLunar Passive Fuel Cell Technologies:\nMicrobes in Space

SUMMARY:NASA Tech Talks: The NASA Force Initiative
DESCRIPTION:We want HOU! Join us to discover NASA’s toughest tech challenges—and apply your skills and expertise to solve them. \nThis month’s NASA Tech Talk will focus on technology development ideas that JSC has put together for the Agency’s “NASA Force” initiative. “America’s leadership in space depends on extraordinary talent\,” said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman. “NASA Force will help us attract the next generation of innovators and technical experts who are ready to solve the toughest challenges in exploration\, science\, and aerospace technology. This partnership strengthens our workforce and helps ensure the United States remains the global leader in space.” Molly Bannon will describe these opportunities\, how they were developed\, and how you might be able to participate! We’ll also have a little bit of information about the recent flight of Artemis II\, and other recent events at NASA. \nPlease join us after the talk for drinks and networking at Second Draught! \n  \nAbout the Speakers \nMolly Bannon is an innovation and strategy specialist for the Business Development and Technology Integration Office at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC). In this role\, she serves as a key bridge for universities\, industry\, and international partners\, helping them navigate and connect with NASA JSC’s unique capabilities and services to foster strategic partnerships. \nShe most recently worked as the Concept Engineering Group Lead within NASA JSC’s Engineering Directorate. As part of this role\, she led the Forge (JSC’s Concurrent Engineering Team) and was the founder responsible for establishing that capability at NASA JSC. In 2019\, she spent one year at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) working on the Europa Clipper Flight System as a systems engineer. Prior to JPL\, she spent 10 years at JSC in systems engineering and technical design roles for various human spaceflight programs\, including: the Orion Program\, the Commercial Crew Program\, the Human Landing System Program and the EVA and Human Surface Mobility Program. Molly began her career as a co-op in JSC’s Aerosciences Branch\, where she provided aerothermal expertise for the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) Aerosciences Team\, contributing to the successful Exploration Flight Test (EFT-1) in 2014. \nMolly (White) Bannon received her B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Iowa State University and her M.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech. In her free time\, she enjoys traveling\, exploring the outdoors with her family and goldendoodle\, and picking up (and quickly dropping) new hobbies. \nMontgomery B.

SUMMARY:Mercury Fund Day at the Ion: Building the Future of Agentic Commerce
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to “Mercury Fund Day at the Ion” – a program series hosted by the Ion and Mercury\, where software founders can connect with mentorship at Houston’s HQ for innovation. \nWhat is it: Mercury Fund Day\, previously known as Software Day\, is a monthly series driving the support\, inspiration\, and connections needed to help startups on their path to rapid\, sustainable growth. Each month\, Mercury Fund Day will include office hours (by application)\, a keynote session\, and networking. \nEach month will include a new speaker and topic covering the latest trends and breakthroughs in software technology and practical advice for founders. From AI to blockchain and guidance on fundraising\, explore topics that are relevant for your company’s journey.\n \nAfterward\, join us for a networking happy hour at Second Draught\, brought to you by Gunderson Dettmer\, where you can connect with fellow entrepreneurs\, investors\, and industry professionals\, forging connections that could shape the future of your venture. \nThis month’s topic: Building the Future of Agentic Commerce. We are entering the next paradigm shift in commerce: agentic commerce\, where software agents act as economic actors – discovering services\, negotiating terms\, and executing settlement with minimal human intervention\, but anchored to an explicit human mandate. This isn’t a prettier checkout flow. It’s a structural change from synchronous “session-based” authorization to asynchronous\, mandate-based delegation – and it’s arriving as protocols\, payment rails\, and merchant systems finally become machine-readable. Mercury believes the next generation of commerce winners will be built in the gap between what today’s rails can underwrite and what tomorrow’s agents will demand. \nMercury believes the next generation of commerce winners will be built in the gap between what today’s rails can underwrite and what tomorrow’s agents will demand. Moderated by Blair Garrou\, Managing Partner of Mercury Fund\, panelists include:\n\n\nMatt Bouchner: CEO\, Satsuma.ai\nCoert Voorhees: VP Commercial\, LISNR\nAileen Allen: Venture Partner\, Mercury Fund\n\n\nPrior to the fireside chat\, a select group of early-stage software startups will participate in office hours. Over the course of 2-hours\, first-time entrepreneurs looking for guidance or seasoned founders needing help tackling tough challenges will have access to a group of curated mentors from the Mercury network and gain insights and guidance tailored to their needs. Startups are invited to apply to participate here.\n\n“Mercury Fund Day at the Ion” isn’t just an event – it’s a catalyst for growth and collaboration. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of Houston’s thriving tech ecosystem. Join us as we bring together leading mentors\, promising startups\, and like-minded Houstonians focused on transformative software innovations. \n  \n \n
