SUMMARY:Ion Family STEAM Day: Let's Build a Tripwire Alarm!
DESCRIPTION:Join STEAM on Demand for a hands-on family-friendly STEAM workshop. In this engineering lesson\, students will build a simple tripwire alarm using circuits and buzzers to detect movement. They will explore key concepts like conductivity\, switches\, and how security systems function—and understand how these elements work together to create the alarm. \nThrough hands-on construction led by the STEAM on Demand platform\, using everyday materials\, they’ll create and test their own working alarm system. By the end\, students will understand how circuits work and how tripwires are used in real-world applications. \nThis event will be tailored for 7-14-year-olds and their families for a fun STEAM experience! We look forward to building and learning with you!

SUMMARY:IPL Learning: Intro to 3D Printing
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of Additive Manufacturing at the Ion Prototyping Lab’s Intro to 3D Printing workshop. \nDiscover the potential of 3D printing as a powerful tool for rapid fabrication and prototyping. In this 3-hour workshop\, participants will gain comprehensive knowledge about Additive Manufacturing technologies and the operation of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printers. \nFundamentals of CNC: Understand the principles behind Additive Manufacturing and its role in modern fabrication processes. \nDesign for 3D Printing: Explore how to optimize and prepare your digital files for successful\, high-quality prints. \nSlicing Techniques: Gain insight into slicing software\, covering topics such as infill patterns\, layer height resolution\, and more to optimize your 3D prints. \nHands-On Experience: By the conclusion of this workshop\, participants will have acquired the knowledge to prepare and operate a variety of consumer and industrial FDM printers. \nHands-On Machine Operation: By the end of the workshop\, participants will have modified and printed their own unique model\, gaining practical experience in 3D Printer operation. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to expand your prototyping skills and gain valuable experience in 3D printing. Space is limited\, so reserve your spot today! \nNote: Experience with 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is helpful but not required. We encourage participants to bring their own laptop and mouse as we have a limited amount available for use during the class. All necessary materials\, resources\, and software information will be provided upon registration. \nClass participants will be able to audit the class to reinforce / refresh their knowledge for 6 months after completing the class at no additional charge. In addition\, they can come to the Ion Prototype Lab during Office Hours for general assistance with their designs. \n
